Classroom Document: Examples of Student Work
Reflection
These documents reflect a lesson that allowed students to come up with words as a class that were related to their thoughts about Halloween. The majority of the words offered up, described monsters of various sorts. Students were then instructed to categorize and list the words in any way they chose. I picked these two examples because they showed a stark contrast between various techniques used to categorize different things. One student chose to categorize alphabetically, while the other chose to split the words into three groups, monsters, phrases and everything else. Both examples illustrate the different ways students think and categorize when left to their own devices.
